How to Clean Floors
3 min read · Updated 1 January 2026
Floors take the most traffic in any space. A consistent mopping routine keeps them presentable with minimal effort — whether it is a home, an office or a shop.
Sweep or vacuum first
Loose dust and grit scratch floor surfaces over time and reduce the effectiveness of mopping. Sweep or vacuum before you mop.
Dilute correctly
- Add the recommended amount of floor cleaner to a bucket of clean water, as directed on the product label.
- Use the labelled dilution ratio — more is not better.
- Change the water when it becomes visibly dirty.
Mop and air dry
Mop section by section and allow floors to air dry. In busy areas, place a caution sign while floors are wet to prevent slipping.
Check your flooring manufacturer's guidance for cleaning restrictions on delicate surfaces, and spot-test in an inconspicuous area first.
